Since I don’t know y’all personally, I don’t know your level of cannabis expertise. With that in mind, I want to start off with the basics. When talking about the types of weed, let’s start at the root, the two main families of cannabis Indica and Sativa. Indicas (Granddaddy Purp, Blue Cheese, Hindu Kush, Skywalker) are going to be the strains that help you relax, the ones you want after a long day and just wanna sit on the couch, and turn on Netflix and drift into sleep on the couch. Sativas (Sour Diesel, Green Crack, Durban Poison, Silver Haze) are the ones that make you feel energetic, that makes your mind rush and makes you SUPER FOCUSED (natural adderall). Most of what you get are a hybrid of the two, think of some legendary strains or ones that everyone talks about OG Kush, Girl Scout Cookie, Afghan Haze, White Widow. Being able to identify the difference and know what type of high you are looking for is extremely beneficial to anticipate the how the medicine will affect you.
I’ve had the wonderful opportunities to visiting the “Mecca” of cannabis, California as well as Oregon and Colorado (need to make it to Washington). It was really in Oregon and Colorado that I got to experience some Sativas. While in Portland I picked up some Raspberry Cough. I smoked it the day after I came back from the trip and was SUPER FOCUSED!!!!! I couldn’t move off of a task until it was completed, almost like being type A, and naturally, I’m SO NOT type A. But I enjoyed it a lot. So when I took a trip to Colorado I went specifically looking for a good Sativa, and I found a good Sativa dominant hybrid called Biker Le'Blanc (BLB). It wasn’t until I got back home and I had some one night when I planned on getting some work done, and the BLB provided the mental focus I was looking for. If you lack focus, try to find you a good Sativa to have before going to work, or right before you go in (edibles might be best since they have a longer lasting effect), and see how effective you’ll be. You might want to try on a Saturday or Sunday when you don’t have too much going and run a test to see the effect on you.
Unfortunately my Indica experience hasn’t been vast, maybe some Agfhan a while back (but a friend of mine has some Kosher Kush might get some from him). But I’ve experienced a few nice Hybrids. Indica strains and Indica dominant hybrids have had me just sitting watching tv getting ready to wake up in the middle of the night with the tv and lights still on. In April I had some really nice OG Kush. It had me not wanting to do nothing, but relax (got some really good sleep when I had it). My favorite Hybrid and favorite strain right now is Tahoe OG. Its Indica effects definitely come out, it provides a nice lazy feeling and you can still function. It’s like having a nice beer or glass of wine to help get into a mind of peace and forget the troubles of the day. Can’t wait to find some more.
Are you a Sativa, Indica, Hybrid or don’t care type of person? The type I use is completely dependent upon my goal with using a particular strain. If I’m looking to be focused like a wake and bake, if I have access to it, I’m on the Sativa with that. If I’m using for happy hour purposes, I’m more than likely reaching for an Indica or Hybrid. Unfortunately in parts of the country where cannabis is still illegal you don’t have the luxury of knowing what strain you’re actually getting or anything unless you know somebody who's taking trips getting it from out of state. What strains are you using? Indica, Sativa or Hybrid?
The Professional Black Stoner listens to NPR during work hours and Shade45/SXM Fly after work and on the weekends. I enjoy good cannabis, good food, some aspects of the outdoors and craft beer, good whisky, vodka and cognac.
